Soccer is a sport that involves kicking a ball through a goal to score a point. It may seem simple by definition but the reality of playing it would say otherwise. Basic soccer requires a playing field, two teams, a goal post on either end of the field, and a soccer ball. The objective of each team is to get the ball through the opposing team’s goal posts. Both teams start in the middle of the playing field, or soccer field, and the ball is placed in the center. The referee signals the start of the game and the offense player kicks the ball towards a teammate. The defense will do their best to stop the other team from scoring. All players are allowed to use any part of their body to move the ball around except their hands and arms. Only the goalie is allowed to touch the ball with his hands.
Youth soccer rules have variations compared to professional soccer, albeit differences are slight. This allows kids to have more fun because rules are not that strict. In cases of minor league soccer or inter-school competitions, rules are strictly observed so that the game and the players do not get out of hand. The rules are simpler compared to other sports. Ball possession changes if a goal is scored or a violation has been incurred. When a non-goalie player touches the ball with his hand, he immediately forfeits his possession and the ball goes to the opposing team. A player is only allowed to hit the ball and not another player or the referee. It is always best to have a pre-game briefing so that rules and regulations can be explained properly.
